Week 21: Acts 10-11:18
As a group, summarize Acts 10 – 11:18
What stood out to you from the text?
R.C. Sproul calls this one of if not the most significant texts in all the New Testament. Why is this such an important text?
Who were the Jews, Gentiles, and God-fearers? What sort of division existed within the ancient world as a result?
Do you feel as if we are past the point of divide within the church? Why or why not? How does this passage address our oneness in Christ?
What are some of the ways the church is divided today?
Discuss this text and how it relates to Acts 2 and Acts 8? How do these chapters considered together help us to conclude that what’s being described is descriptive rather than prescriptive? (In both of those chapters the Spirit is poured out on believers).
In chapter 11, the debate is settled and the critics silenced. What was it that silenced them and settled the debate? (Certainly Peter’s recounting of the events of chapter 10 but also Peter said in verse 16 that Jesus said this would take place)
In light of that, why is it so important that the Word of God be our standard of truth and understanding?
